Tom Schillaci is now active in fine art & craft fairs in Michigan and shares a studio with photographer Susan Centilla in Suite 204B in the Park Trades Center in downtown Kalamazoo, Click here to see the Park Trades site.  My studio is open to the public during most of the popular Art Hops organized by the Kalamazoo Arts Council on the first Friday of each month from 5-9pm.

Tom has been active in professional photography since 2004 after taking classes in the photography department at KVCC in Kalamazoo, MI. Tom travels extensively within the USA as well as Europe. His goal is to capture the beauty of color and the mood of a scene and display its effects reminiscent of a painting in the form of photography. The joy of creating an original image and seeing it for the first time, a scene at first light, is magical as a dream.

Tom was born and raised in Muskegon, MI, enlisted in the Army and spent two years stationed in Germany in the mid 1980’s. This is where his love of traveling developed. He graduated with a BA in Business Administration from Western Michigan University in 1992 and since has remained in Kalamazoo.

Tom has been photographing for 20 years but only recently in 2004 decided to go professional and work at his art in which is on-going. His interests include scenics, still lifes, black & white and fine art photography. Tom works primarily in digital using the Canon 5D and also actively uses medium format and 35mm film cameras for various black & white, color slide and infra red shoots. He works in Adobe Photoshop CS2 and prints his images on an Epson 4000 professional printer using archival inks, papers, foam core boards and matting. Tom also works on occasion in Corel Painter 9 transforming his images into painterly effects.
